How the Right Operating Model Can Fix a Strategy That Falls Short

This conversation 👇 echoes our thoughts how the business model should implement the business strategy:

💡 “Different strategies require different operating models.” ➡️ Yes, “structure follows strategy”!
💡 “Organizations intentionally have a design.” ➡️ If they are not intentionally designed, they usually have a poor organization design.
💡 “The first step in an operating model transformation is to define a common language for talking about these design elements.” ➡️ Exactly, and that’s why we developed the Data & AI Business Design method and the TOP (Technology, Organization, People) framework!
💡 “One of the common frustrations I’ve seen, over the many years I’ve been designing organizations, is that people often make change without a rock-solid business case.” – We have a solution for this too: use our Business Model/Case Canvas.

There is also a project template for aligning the operating model with the business strategy in our Data & AI Business Design Bench: Data & AI StratOps for Innovation and Transformation.

First, the team uses the Strategy Pyramid Canvas to define the objectives and direction, and then they design the target operating model necessary for implementation using the Business Model/Case Canvas. To implement this in StratOps style, there are weekly action sprints (with Kanban) and monthly ambition (with OKR) and reflection (with retrospectives) workshops.

A Love Story: Miro+Lovable

I saw it for the first time in New York at Miro’s Canvas 25 conference: a Miro board was instantly turned into an app in Lovable—impressive! Last week, Miro asked me if I would like to test the MCP integration Miro+Lovable myself—as one of ten community members worldwide! Of course, I said yes. In this blog post, I’ll share my journey, my learnings, and, of course, the result: a ski race app. ⛷️
