Playing to Win: How Strategy Really Works

Playing to Win

“Playing to Win” – THE classic strategy book.

Key message: strategy is about choices. And the first choice is: Where to Play?

And this is precisely the choice that many companies fail to make when it comes to data and AI.

They try to win everywhere. Or they try to win where everyone else is playing (example: generative or agentic AI). Then end up just losing money and time.

An essential question in a data & AI strategy is therefore: Where to apply AI?

In other words, in which business domains is the greatest leverage to achieve operational and strategic goals? And to build up capabilities targeted at these areas and quickly implement data & AI use cases.

To answer this question in a playful way, we have developed a simple and quick game. The collaborative game Playing AI to Win the Business is based on the Playing to Win approach described in the book and shows you in a fun way how to design a successful data & AI strategy for your business.

If you want to play the card game yourself, here is the Miroverse template:

A Love Story: Miro+Lovable

I saw it for the first time in New York at Miro’s Canvas 25 conference: a Miro board was instantly turned into an app in Lovable—impressive! Last week, Miro asked me if I would like to test the MCP integration Miro+Lovable myself—as one of ten community members worldwide! Of course, I said yes. In this blog post, I’ll share my journey, my learnings, and, of course, the result: a ski race app. ⛷️
